About Hanafuda Match

What Hanafuda Match is

Hanafuda Match is a memory game from Tamaki Technologies. The deck is the flower cards of the twelve months. Cards from the same month match, even when the artwork is different. January’s crane matches January’s pine. March’s curtain matches March’s blossoms.

Objective

Clear the board. The clock starts when you flip the first card, and your best time for that mode and grid stays on this device.

How a round works

Choose Match 2, Match 3, or Match 4, then choose a grid that fits the screen. The board scales to the window. Flip a card and remember where it went. Match 2 is the beginner game: turn two cards from the same month. A month on the table may be a pair, or all four of its cards. When four are dealt, any two of that month are a match, and the other two still match each other. Match 3 asks for three cards from the same month, and every month on the table has three. Match 4 asks for all four cards of a month. A card from a different month ends that try at once. The cards turn face down again after a short look. A move is one completed try. Matched cards leave their places empty, and the rest of the grid stays where it is. The months screen shows one card from each of the twelve flowers.

Number of players

Hanafuda Match is a one-player game.

Strategy

Remember the month, not the picture. Two cards can belong together and still look nothing alike. A wrong month ends the try immediately, so use the short look before the cards turn down.
